Halkidiki / Sithonia
Halkidiki is the peninsula just south of Thessaloniki, the second-largest Greek city, and consists of three ‘fingers’, Kassandra to the West, Sithonia in the middle, and the Athos peninsula, the monk Republic of Agion Oros to the East.
Halkidiki has been paralleled to the secret Garden of Eden, as the nature of Halkidiki cannot be found elsewhere. Sithonia in particular is virtually unspoiled with human intervention kept to a minimum and the villages, resorts and settlements having been build with respect to the natural environment. Here life slows down and its pace is dictated by the waves of the blue sea surrounding Sithonia from all sides but its North, where it attaches to the mainland through a narrow strip of land. Sithonia is a symphony in the blue of the sea, and the green of the pine trees covering most of hills running across the peninsula. It is also a starting point to explore the rich offerings of the Greek North, from natural reserves to unique archaeological sites witnessing the century-old Macedonian culture.
Ηalkidiki / Sithonia enjoys proximity to the metropolitan area of Thessaloniki, which is about 1hour 30 minutes long drive. Thessaloniki international airport is about the same distance and is connected through year-round scheduled services to the main European airports and beyond.
