Chania / Western Crete
Chania is the Western-most edge of the island of Crete and arguably its old town is among its most breath-taking places; the blend of the Venetian influence and Ottoman heritage can be felt in every narrow street that all lead to the old harbor – a place to see and to be seen, a melting pot of locals and visitors from around the world, with its lighthouse standing tall, seeing people come and go, everything changing, while all remain the same. But the region of Chania is not only the town; it is the unspoiled villages in the mountains rising in the back, manifesting the best Cretan hospitality has to offer; it is the rocky terrain that seems uninviting, but embraces those who can spot the beauty in the rough environment; it is some of the best beaches, not only in Greece but worldwide, where ‘exotic’ seems an understatement. And the list goes on…
The island of Crete in general and Chania being in the far south of Greece and the Aegean Sea in particular, have the longest season among Greek summer destinations and is easily accessible from April through to November either directly by plane with connections to most European hubs, or via ferry from Piraeus, the port of Athens.
