Corfu / Ionian Islands
There is little to say about Corfu that has not been already said: it is a jewel of the Ionian Sea, the Northern-most island of the Eptanisos (seven islands) – complex. The variety Corfu has to offer is second-to-none. Be it the atmospheric old city with its architecture borrowed from nearby Italy, home to the only cricket court in Greece, a heritage from the British occupation of the island; the endless sandy beaches of the Southwest, or the small bays with their crystal-clear waters of the North; the scenic views from Palaiokastritsa over the breath-taking coastline; the century-old olive groves that dominate the inland and force the narrow roads connecting the unspoiled villages to run playfully through them; the palace of Austrian Empress Sissy, who fell in love with the island and spend her summers here; the Corfiot lust for life, with its music, costumes, dancing, dining, and so much more.
Corfu is a prime summer destination and is hence well-connected to all major European airports with frequent direct services. Corfu can also be reached by ferry from the mainland. The ferry services are dense and the journey to the port of Igoumenitsa takes less than two leisurely hours.
